KEYBOARDING PRACTICE FOR PARCC
The ability to keyboard well is important for our students especially with PARCC. How much are our students expected to be able to type? According to PARCC:-
GRADE 4 students should be able to type a minimum of 1 page in a testing period.
- GRADE 5 students should be able to type a minimum of 2 pages in a testing period.
- GRADE 6 students should be able to type a minimum of 3 pages in a testing period.
We have a lot of “thumb” typists who are very good at getting their thoughts across on their smart phones, but need much more practice in actual keyboarding - especially for the “long haul.”
To prepare for the ELA sections of PARCC, students should practice their keyboarding and mouse skills within the classroom, and parents should foster practice at home.
