Bocce Court Update

Dear Rochelle Park Community,

We are excited about our brand-new bocce court on the Midland School campus! This wonderful addition to our facility represents our ongoing commitment to providing diverse recreational and athletic opportunities for all students.

Our new bocce court will serve multiple purposes throughout the school day. During recess and physical education periods, students will have the opportunity to learn and enjoy this engaging sport that promotes strategic thinking, hand-eye coordination, and friendly competition. Bocce is an inclusive activity that students of all abilities can participate in and enjoy together, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship among our school community.

We are particularly proud that this court will serve as the home training facility for our Special Olympics Bocce Team. Our team has achieved remarkable success, earning state rankings and bringing honor to our school and community. This dedicated space will allow our athletes to practice year-round and continue their pursuit of excellence in competitive bocce. Midland will host other teams on our home turf. We celebrate not only their athletic achievements but also the determination, teamwork, and school spirit they demonstrate.

This project was made possible through a generous New Jersey Local Recreation Improvement Grant, demonstrating our state's commitment to supporting community recreation and adaptive sports programs. We are grateful for this funding opportunity that allows us to expand our facility without burdening local taxpayers while enhancing the educational and recreational experiences we provide. Remaining funds from the grant will be further used to enhance our playground equipment in the future.

The bocce court represents more than just a recreational facility, it symbolizes our dedication to inclusive programming and our belief that every student deserves opportunities to participate, compete, and excel. We look forward to watching students of all abilities enjoy this new addition during recess and cheering on our talented Special Olympics Bocce Team as they continue their competitive success.

We invite the community to celebrate this exciting addition to our school campus. The bocce court officially opens for student use in September, and we encourage families to visit during school events to see this wonderful new facility. Just like the playground and basketball courts, the local community is welcome to bring their own bocce materials to play after school hours. We kindly ask that visitors honor the posted guidelines for use of the grounds.

Thank you for your continued support of Midland School and our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for all students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Courtney Carmichael
