    The New Jersey Department of Education regulation (N.J.A.C. 6A:8-3.1) defines Gifted and Talented as students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability in one or more content areas when compared to their chronological peers in the local school district and who require modifications of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities.

    According to N.J.A.C. 6A:8-3., district boards of education must make provisions for an ongoing K-12 identification process for gifted and talented students that includes multiple measures.  

     

    Criteria Used for Consideration for Eligibility for the Gifted and Talented Services

    Students are identified as Gifted and Talented by multiple measures with the following criteria:

    • Teacher Recommendations/Teacher Checklist
    • Final Average in ELA (Reading/Writing/Grammar) and Mathematics
    • State Assessment Results (NJSLA - applicable for grades 4-8)
    • LinkIT Benchmark assessments (K-8)
