.*Studies have shown that students who participate in school music programsconsistently score higher on standardized tests. In addition to thisbenefit, students learn to work together cooperatively, they learn selfdiscipline from daily practice and they enjoy an increase in self-esteem fromsuccessfully participating in performance groups.General Music PK-8All students have General Music as part of their academic course work atMidland School. In grades K through 5 the students meet once a week for aforty-minute period.In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, the students will meet every day for one marking period this year.Students in grades 6 & 7 will also have the opportunity to sign up for a chorus elective marking period 2.Performing GroupsStudents in grades 4 through 8 may join the Midland School Chorus which meets after school.Students in grades 4 through 8 may choose to learn an instrument and participate in one of the Midland School Bands.Students who qualify in grades 6 through 8, may try out for the Talented and Gifted Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles.Every other year the music department puts on a musical in the Spring. Students in grades 6 through 8 are eligible to participate in the show.
