• A Message from Mr. Alberta

    Dear Midland School Families,

As we approach the start of the 2021-2022 school year, I wanted to provide families with important information to make the start of school as smooth as possible.  First, I am so excited to welcome all of our students back to school on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.  It has been a year and a half since we have had all of our students in attendance and it will be great to see everyone in-person.

As you know, we have developed a plan that provides for full-day in-person instruction, in-school lunch and before and aftercare paid programs.  Please remember that the success of this school year and our full time in-person instructional day will require cooperation, patience and support among all stakeholders.

    Real Time Parent Portal

As part of the Rochelle Park School District's continued effort to enhance communication with parents, we have moved the parent portal from the Genesis Parent to Real Time.  Real Time, a web-based student management system, gives parents access to view a student's attendance, and the capability to update contact information, sign off on required documents, and complete all necessary paperwork for the start of the school year.  A letter was mailed to parents with detailed instructions to set up your Real Time Parent Portal account.  Teacher assignments (Pre K-5) and student schedules (6-8) will be available very soon.

    Before/After Care

Registration for our Before/After Care program is available by clicking here or by visiting our website.    Please note the Before/After Care program begins on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2021.

    Morning Drop-Off Procedures

Student safety is of prime importance to all of us. Your understanding and cooperation with our morning procedures are essential to ensure your child’s safe arrival at school:

    • Students are not to arrive at school before 8:05 a.m. unless your child participates in the Morning Breakfast Program.
    • Adults driving children to school must use the designated drop-off lane adjacent to the left side of the school - not the general parking area - to drop off students. At no time are any vehicles allowed in the front circular driveway. This is for emergency vehicle use only.
    • Pull your vehicle as far to the front of the drop-off lane as is possible before allowing your child (ren) to exit.
    • Students must exit on the right side of the vehicle only.
    • If you choose to park and walk your child up to the school, please utilize William Street parking spaces or designated spots on our basketball courts.  PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN STAFF PARKING SPACES.
    • Upon arrival, students should report to the appropriate entrance for their grade and assemble in their respective areas. Students in grades K-3 are to proceed inside to the cafeteria. Students in grades 4-8 are to proceed to the multi-purpose room entrance and line up with their respected grade level.

    Dismissal Procedures

PreK through Grade 5: Teachers will escort their classes to the appropriate door at the time of dismissal. Parents who are meeting their children must wait outside for the students.

Grades 6, 7, 8: Students will exit the parking lot door at the end of the main hallway. Those who have Physical Education class during 9th period may exit through the gym door.

Please note that teacher supervision is provided near the parking lot door and in the parking lot until 3:10 p.m. Students may exit only; they are not to allow people back into the building. All visitors wishing to enter the building must ring the bell at the main front entrance and then sign in at the main office as per policy.

Chromebook Distribution for 5th – 8th grade students

As we continue with our 1:1 Chromebook initiative for students in grades 5-8, families will be required to submit their annual user fee.  Personal devices (Chromebooks, Laptops, iPads) will not be permitted. Families in grades 5-8 will be receiving a separate communication with the PaySchools link for their Chromebooks.

Students in grades Pre K – 4 will have access to devices (Chromebooks, iPads) during the school day, as classrooms will be outfitted with devices for each student.

    Food Services

Lunch will be served in school during our typical lunch periods.  Pre-packaged lunches will be made available and be free for all students this school year.  All lunches must be pre-ordered via the PaySchools link that will be shared in a separate communication.

During lunch, students will be sitting in the cafeteria and/or classrooms to assure social distancing.  A rotating schedule will be utilized and all pre-ordered student lunches will be brought to the lunch table and/or classrooms for distribution.  Students will receive both lunch and recess as they have in previous years.

    Physical Education

Students in grades 6-8 will be changing for Physical Education for the 2021-2022 school year. Our Physical Education staff will review all procedures and protocols during the first week of school.

    Visitors to the Schools

As we begin the school year, we want to make all parents aware that we will be limiting the number of visitors to our schools.  Parents are welcome to drop off items for their children to the main office.  All other visits will be limited to scheduled appointments only and all visitors must wear masks in the school building.  We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this important matter.

    School Website

Please be sure to visit our website www.rochellepark.org for continuous updates and information of the coming school year.

We have many new updates to both our facilities and programs at Midland School and look forward to a successful 2021-2022 school year.
